After reading Joel Comm’s book Twitter Power a lot of my friends were baffled by the idea that a whole book could even be written on as simple a thing as twitter. So if you are one of them let me fill you in on a few things things you might have missed about the micro blog known as twitter.
You may want to start with this video if you are completely new to twitter.
The speed of a tweet
Libraries were once the most up to date source for information. How many websites did you visit for your last research project before you looked to books? Even wikipeida is said to contain more up to date information than the encyclopedia Britannic. Blogging took it a step farther by giving people a means to update their websites more often, usually multiple times a week. Twitter allows millions of people to update the web multiple times a day!
Michael Jackson’s death was true and rumor and confirmed again within 15 minutes of the twitter community. News circulates faster on twitter, because it turns every tweeter (twitter user) into a reporter. People will update their statuses far faster than the first news anchor can arrive on a big scene.
No longer about who you know, but who you follow.
Unlike facebook, twitter allows you to follow people you don’t know giving you access to experts in fields you enjoy. You get not only access to their thoughts and what they do, but you can join in on their conversation with a reply. You will be surprised who will answer you. Here is some of my favorite people to follow:
• @rbohlender – Intercessory missionary and founder of The Zoe Foundation
• @problogger – The authority on blogging these days
• @dougritt – Director of The Center for Creative Media
• @pastormark – Pastor of Mars Hill Church
• @provokingthirst – Shameless plug…
You get the idea, your experts are most likely on twitter. Go find them!
Twitter was opened to developers (coders) outside of the company and they made all kinds of things for it. One tweet can be circulated to your Facebook, website, blog, and nearly all other social media sites. Keeping them all fresh with the latest news, advice, ideas, opinions, etc. It can control your to do list, be updated from your facebook, help your team collaborate, or broadcast a live event.
A single tweet can contain up to 140 characters, but it also can contain a live link giving you the power to attach anything to a tweet. So whether you have a new photo, video, collage, article, blog post, or even a favorite recipe, you can share it with the world with a link.
